Gloriana player van Gloriana

Die van mij

Gloriana is a four-member vocal group featuring brothers Tom and Mike Gossin along with Rachel Reinert and Cheyenne Kimball. The Gossin brothers grew up in Utica, N.Y., and moved to Nashville in 2007 after performing extensively in clubs in North Carolina. Both took classical piano lessons by the time they were 5 years old. At age 10, Tom began studying with a local jazz musician at 10 and picked up the guitar at 12. He had his own band in high school and moved to Wilmington, N.C., with two bandmates after graduation.

He was a guitar major at the University of North Carolina Wilmington until a teacher encouraged his dream of songwriting and performing. He dropped out and began playing music 200-250 nights a year, making independent records to sell at gigs. Mike, who began playing drums at 8 and guitar at 12, had his own group in high school, too, and later moved to Wilmington to join Tom. He fronted his own band, then joined a group with Tom and their older brother Steve, filming a short-lived reality series. When Steve went his own way, Tom and Mike formed a duo and eventually decided to relocate to Nashville, where they met Reinert through her MySpace page.

Ethan Miller’s Howlin’ Rain is inmiddels meer een band geworden dan een project. De psychedelische southern-rockers zijn allang geen zijproject meer naast het goddelijke Comets on Fire, waar Miller eveneens een meer dan verdienstelijk lid van is. Waar Comets on Fire geregeld uit de bocht vliegt, houdt Miller het bij Howlin’ Rain veel meer binnen de vaste en geijkte paden van het liedje.

Ruim tien jaar na Wake Up and Smell The Coffee komt The Cranberries op 13 februari 2012 met een nieuw studioalbum: Roses.

Met Roses, geproduceerd door Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur), grijpt The Cranberries terug naar het frisse en originele geluid van de eerste twee albums Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? uit 1993 en No Need To Argue uit 1994. De carrière van The Cranberries, bestaande uit Dolores O’Riordan, Noel Hogan, Mike Hogan en Fergal Lawler, begon in 1989 in Limerick, Ierland. In de jaren ’90 verkocht de band wereldwijd meer dan 30 miljoen albums en scoorde wereldhits met Zombie, Linger en Ode To My Family.

In 2003 kondigde The Cranberries aan ermee te stoppen en kwam daarna slechts een keer bij elkaar voor een akoestisch optreden toen Dolores O’Riordan in 2009 een eredoctoraat ontving van het Trinity College. ‘The minute we started playing, it felt like we’d never stopped,’ herrinert Dolores zich. ‘There’s something about playing with The Cranberries. It’s like putting on a perfect pair of shoes. It just fits.’ In 2010 ondernam The Cranberries een reünietour en gaf in totaal 107 concerten in Europa, Noord- en Zuid-Amerika, Azië en zelfs China. In maart van dat jaar stond de band in de Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam.

‘Having recorded two albums with various different musicians during our hiatus, I could clearly see that Noel and Mike have a unique way of creating chords and Ferg keeps it together in a subtle way. We had a blast in the studio, Stephen was in his zone and it came together rather quickly. There is a sense of rejuvenation in the group, a freshness.’ Gitarist Noel Hogan voegt toe: ‘I always had the attitude that there would be another album. Over the last six years, Dolores and I were sending each other ideas on and off.’ Tijdens de soundchecks en repetities voor de reünieshows begon de band te werken aan nieuw materiaal. ‘The icing on the cake was to work with Stephen Street again who helped us re-discover our sound.’

De nummers op Roses komen van een verfriste band, een band die weer hongerig is en een band die altijd herkenbaar is door de unieke stem van Dolores O’Riordan. De stem die ervoor zorgde dat een stel jonge dromers uit Ierland in een paar jaar tijd uitgroeide tot een supergroep.

De Amerikaanse band The Fray is terug met een nieuw album en een nieuwe single; 'Heartbeat'. De single is afkomstig van het nieuwe en tevens derde studio album 'Scars & Stories'.

De band debuteerde in 2005 met het album 'How To Save a Life' waarvan de gelijknamige single wereldwijd een gigantisch succes werd. Ook werd het album twee keer met de platina status bekroond en werden er meer dan 2,5 miljoen albums verkocht. Ook de single 'Over My Head (Cable Car)' was afkomstig van dit album en behaalde twee keer de platina status. In 2010 werd The Fray voor een Grammy Award genomineerd voor het tweede album 'The Fray' waarvan de singles 'You Found Me' en 'Never Say Never' afkomstig waren. Hiervan werden wereldwijd meer dan 4,6 miljoen digitale singles verkocht.

Het nieuwe album is opgenomen in de legendarische Blackbird Studios in Nashville. The Fray werkte samen met producer Brendan O'Brien aan de bekende sound van de band die ook op dit album naar voren komt. is a singer/songwriter based first and currently in Denver, with stops in Chicago, Nashville, & Glasgow along the way. Her long & varied career has found her playing in several bands, as well as singing live and studio backup vocals on everything from industrial to inspirational music. She has released 5 CDs on Salt Lady Records, performed all over the US, in Ireland, Scotland, & Germany, and opened for such acts as Shawn Colvin, Aimee Mann, and Pierce Pettis. After a few years' break from the road, Beki is writing for a new CD and beginning to fill the calendar with live performances with guitarist/producer husband Randy Kerkman.

For many years Chicago-based Beki Hemingway was involved in a string of underground bands, most recently the popular rockabilly group This Train, who toured with Rich Mullins. Now with her first solo LP, Beki finds her own sound, which she describes as "alterna-folkpoprock." Peppy electric guitars combine with full bass and drums to form a backdrop for melodically-charged vocals that are sometimes pop, sometimes edgy, and sometimes sweet. The fun and honest lyrics cover some nostalgic ground, discussing childhood memories and growing up, as well as relationships and faith.

Chimes of freedom, the songs of Bob Dylan.

Wie is Bob Dylan? Wat is Bob Dylan? Over een paar honderd jaar zullen we wellicht denken over Dylan wat sommigen nu ook over Shakespeare zeggen. Dat ‘de man’ nooit bestaan heeft. De schrijver is verworden tot een mythe. Omdat zijn werk zo vaak opnieuw geïnterpreteerd is door anderen. Omdat zijn werk juist door anderen tot een mythische status verheven is. Het is nu al zo. Wie Dylan ziet optreden, ziet een man die volledig in zijn eigen universum opereert. Een man die in niets meer lijkt op de troubadour, dan wel rocker, dan wel de rebel of ‘Born Again Christian’ die hij ooit geweest is. Of alle andere vormen van Dylan die we door de decennia heen langs hebben zien schuiven. Dus als Dylan al Dylan niet meer is, wie of wat is het dan nog wel?

Het antwoord zal altijd ‘de liedjes’ blijven. Want die blijven legendarisch en zijn ook door anderen niet stuk te krijgen. Sterker nog, vaak glimmen ze juist nog meer als anderen er mee aan de haal gaan. Er is namelijk niemand meer die direct ‘Dylan’ roept zodra The Byrds’ versie van Mr. Tambourine Man op de radio voorbij komt, of Jimi Hendrix’ gierende versie van All Along The Watchtower. Of zelfs meer recent Adele met Make You Feel My Love. En dus is een album vol covers misschien wel een meer een logisch carrièreoverzicht aan een daadwerkelijke ‘Greatest Hits’.

Zodoende is dit over vier cd’s verspreidde Amnesty International benefiet boven alles heel bijzonder, met name vanwege de imposante omvang. Een omvangrijke dwarsdoorsnede van ’s werelds beste muzikanten brengt een eerbetoon aan Dylan en de reeks uitgekozen muzikanten lopen behoorlijk uiteen. Aan de ene kant piepjong (de al genoemde Adele, met een live uitvoering van Make You Feel My Love, maar ook bijvoorbeeld hitparadesterretjes als Ke$ha en de 19-jarige Miley Cyrus) aan de andere kant stokoud (Pete Seeger is met zijn 92 jaar de oudst bijdragende muzikant).

In just a short time, John David Kent has made a big impression. With rich three-part harmonies and fresh twists on sounds that channel a mix of Waylon Jennings and Creedance Clearwater Revival, John David Kent’s songs instantly feel both unique and familiar. Dierks Bentley (Phoenix (Arizona), 20 november 1975) is een Amerikaanse countryartiest. Hij debuteerde in 2003 met de single "What Was I Thinkin" voor Capitol Records, die de eerste plaats bereikte op de Amerikaanse Billboardlijst voor countrymuziek.

In 2003 kwam ook zijn debuutalbum "Dierks Bentley" uit. Dit album werd net als zijn opvolger uit 2005 Modern Day Drifter platina in de Verenigde Staten. Zijn derde album uit 2006 getiteld "Long Trip Alone", werd goud. Dierks Bentley groeide niet op met country muziek, maar de interesse werd gewekt toen een vriend de song "Man to Man" van Hank Williams speelde.

Toen hij 19 jaar was verhuisde hij naar Nashville waar hij lange tijd geen succes kende. Hij werkte bij TNN Television en deed onderzoek naar oude country muziek en ging naar bluegrass-bars zoals de Station Inn. Ondertussen werkte hij gestaag aan zijn eigen muziekcarrière wat uiteindelijk in 2003 tot zijn doorbraak leidde. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay area, Lauren Ellis has a rich background as a multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter, especially known for her soulful expressions on slide guitar. Moving to Los Angeles, she found road work as guitarist with Rita Coolidge and Nell Carter, backed up legendary R&B duo Don and Dewey, and toured extensively stateside and overseas. In Los Angeles she wrote and recorded her first independent release: the critically acclaimed Push the River.

Listen for the songs on Feels like Family during MTV's reality shows The Real World, Road Rules, and Extreme Challenge. Lauren's searing slide guitar can also be heard on the theme for CMT's pop-meets-country series Crossroads, where she also shares composing credits. Multipersonalitied recording artist Fiona hails from NJ, USA. Pushed on stage by desperate teachers since first grade because of her unusually loud speaking voice and complete lack of stage fright she was handed a shillelagh, a clarinet and finally a microphone. Cast as a singing bandleader in the high school play she knew immediately her destiny. Encouraged by her father to be a newscaster or a nun she ignored this advice and moved to NYC. The normal series of demos with Eddy Offord and The Dixie Dregs and a day job with iconic photographer Andrew Unangst led to her Atlantic Records debut.

Talk to Me, produced by local hero Peppi Marchello of The Good Rats, was an out of the box sensation and the MTV rotation caught the eye of Miami Vice producers where she was kept awake for 158 hours to star as Jackie in the New York Times hailed Little Miss Dangerous episode of the hit TV show. Two more albums on Atlantic and then a jump to Geffen for the AOR melodic rock smash Squeeze album followed. Along the way she dueted with her friend Kip Winger on the radio/MTV most requested hit Everything You Do and starred with Bob Dylan and Rupert Everett in the movie Hearts of Fire.

Don Carr (lead guitar) Born in Wayne, MI, and raised in Henderson, KY, Don is the only member of his family who has musical talent. He began singing as a toddler, even before he had mastered talking. Picking up a discarded guitar, Don took lessons at the YMCA. He practiced at home by listening to records and learning to imitate the guitar licks. Beginning at age 15, Don played guitar in a club band, later joining a rock band whose members wrote and recorded their own material.

The group won grand prize in a radio station-sponsored contest, and Don was hooked on the music business! Attending North Texas State in Denton and Belmont College in Nashville, he pursued music majors. It was while studying at Belmont that he began making friends in the country music industry, eventually leading to his first major road job, playing with David Slater. Later Don traveled with Shelly West, Earl Thomas Conley, and Marie Osmond. He joined The Oaks Band in 1991 to play lead guitar, but Don also plays the drums and says that he has a ‘percussive attitude’ toward the guitar, which he describes as ‘very rhythmic.’

Astro Safari

is the name by which 3 recently graduated (and 1 current) Western (Ontario) students call their collaborative musical creations -- conceived mostly in Sydenham Hall, HSB Room 240 and on Cedar Ave across from the Hi-Ya Mart. Their names are Matt Simmonds, Paul Jenkins, Ben Tucker and Dan Weidelich. We hope you enjoy what you hear !

Astro Safari is a newly formed Canadian four-piece started out of the University of Western Ontario. With a repertoire based in rock music they are doing their best to ignore the rules and formulas plaguing the art best understood by way of ears.

The project, originally titled Sim & Dan, began to take root from the stockpile of co-lead-vocalist, Dan Weidelich's lyrics and guitar pieces he began writing in his first year of university. After two dormant years, insert the musical mind of multi-instrumentalist Matt Simmonds (also of Air Marshal Landing) and suddenly the hibernating bits and pieces began to pour fluidly into their own respective places.

The pair recorded two songs ('Open Your Eyes' and subsequently 'Riptide') for a mutual friend(Ben Doner)'s group audio recording projects in 2009. Upon hearing the finished products both decided an album must be written, inevitably leading to the formation of a band. Experienced hardcore-high-school-band-drummer Ben Tucker hopped on the kit to solidify the groove and Paul Jenkins ferociously picked up his axe to power up the tonal potency of what has become known as Astro Safari.

Aaron Lines is from Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. He's the youngest of four children of a schoolteacher and the town's first dentist. He says it was a great place to grow up, but he always dreamed of playing music. And he knew that dream would mean moving away. "It was a small city, you pretty much knew everybody, and everybody knew you. I went to school with the same thirty kids until 8th grade."

Like most Canadian kids, he laced on a pair of skates not too long after he started walking, and began playing hockey when he was about three. "I loved hockey, it was just always there in my life. It was like breathing. But when it came time to get serious about it, I found out I just didn't have the passion for it that I did for music."

RAGDOLL is a country love song come to life. Husband and wife duo Jason and Lena Cox met at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, where each earned a degree in vocal performance. Na zijn studie aan de Bristol University ging Blunt in het leger. Zijn familie had een lange legertraditie; ook zijn vader had in het leger gezeten. Toen Blunt in Kosovo diende, schreef hij in 2002 het nummer No Bravery. Later kwam dat nummer ook op Back To Bedlam, zijn debuutalbum. Blunt was officier in het leger, en had dienst tijdens de begrafenis van koningin-moeder Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. Hij was een van de soldaten die haar kist droegen.

ANNA TERNHEIM is a Swedish singer, songwriter and has got many awards under her belt, reaping them with her debut ‘Somebody Outside’ (2004), ‘Separation Road’ (2006), ‘Halfway to Fivepoints’ (2008 - debut album in USA), ‘Leaving on a Mayday’ (2008). Her songs were also featured in some TV series. The latest addition, ‘The Night Visitor’, has just been freshly released.

TERNHEIM’s style apart from the crossover that feels to be between Indie Rock and understated Pop to acoustic, bluesy & folk... at times reminding of JOAN BAEZ minus BAEZ’s pretensions and ultra seriousness, some sensibilities of DIDO on a less poppy appeal. All that remark apart, her vocal is very pleasant and she’s good at what she’s doing, her presence is cool, not too much in your face but pretty much strongly there. Understated classiness and intelligence come to mind too. It’s difficult to get on with your ‘to do list’ because if you’ll listen to this, you’re just gonna want to kick off your shoes, put your feet up and simply chill out.

So reserve it for the time you don’t have to do anything and enjoy! Songs to give as an examples - the up-beat-ish ‘Lorelie-Marie’, ‘Ghost Of A Man’, ‘God Don’t Know’ with its whistling and the push for you to join along the refrain. ‘All Shadows’ - good depth added by the drums and in overall, interesting song in this quality release.

In choosing Revival as the title for the follow up to her 2008 debut, Chasing The Sun, Tara Oram isn’t just summing up the subject matter of the songs she’s chosen to record this time out, she’s capturing the spirit that has characterized her approach to her craft since the very first time she picked up a microphone.

In other words, Oram says; “We’re keeping it country. I wanted to stay true to what I love musically and record songs that hopefully will inspire people. That’s what these each of these songs did for me; either by just making me feel good, or by helping me through something.”

Although Oram insists that she’s lucky to be able to do what she does, few people chase their dreams with the kind of persistence the Newfoundland born singer has routinely displayed over the course of her life. The Naked and Famous is een band uit Nieuw-Zeeland. Ze brengen hoofdzakelijk een mengeling van electropop en alternatieve rock. De muziek van The Naked and Famous wordt veel vergeleken met MGMT en Passion Pit.

De groep werd in 2008 opgericht door zangeres Alisa Xayalith en zanger/producer/gitarist Thom Powers. Snel daarna kwam ook Aaron Short bij de band. De drie kenden elkaar van een muziekopleiding in Auckland. The Naked and Famous bracht aanvankelijk twee EP's uit, maar brak in 2010 door dankzij de Nieuw-Zeelandse nummer 1 hit Young Blood.[1] Op 6 september 2010 werd hun eerste album Passive Me, Aggressive You uitgebracht. Tweede single Punching in a Dream bereikte de elfde plaats in de Nieuw-Zeelandse hitlijsten. the project grew into its own. Formed in Great Falls, Montana, in 2001 by Bill Sanchez (bass) and Jason Broussard (drums), the first incarnation was heavily inspired by modern art-rock pioneers Tool and their use of unorthodox song structures and time signatures. Composing adventurous instrumental arrangements, it wasn’t until four years later that the duo finally found the permanent additions they sought in guitarist Jared Amlin and vocalist Ty Jividen. With a complete lineup, the band began to further evolve, while incorporating other aspects to create their musical identity – atmospheric synths and polyrhythmic experimentation, as well as influences ranging from Porcupine Tree, Meshuggah, Pulse Ultra and Karnivool.

With members hailing from various regions of the country, the quartet permanently relocated to Ohio and began playing small shows and building a devoted following. After being tapped to support bands like Soilwork and Helmet, the group garnered local attention in 2008, but the outfit experienced an unexpected hiatus following a facial injury suffered by Jividen, which left him unable to sing for several months. Upon Jividen’s recovery, CETERUM independently released the EP Proportions a year later – a collaboration with multi-platinum, award winning producer Michael Seifert (Dave Matthews Band, Tori Amos). The track “Insolence.Recoil” has since received significant regional airplay reaching all the way to Knoxville, Tennessee, as well as being featured on WJCU’s Metal on Metal program to enthusiastic feedback. There are just some things that country artists do better than any other music artist does, and that’s their ability to donate to causes and things that truly matter in the world. For as out of this world his persona gets at times, John Rich has a serious soft-spot for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN and while it’s one of country music’s ‘pet charities,’ it is that for good reason.

The hospital doesn’t turn any sick child away, regardless of their ability to pay for treatment or not. John Rich has spent this spring on Celebirty Apprentice and during this show he has won nearly $750,000 dollars for St. Jude’s and now he’s continuing to support the hospital with his SixPak For The Kids.

This SixPak collection is paying tribute to the friends and familes and kids of St. Jude’s that have inspired him from his very first day visitng there.

Yet it is constantly fucked up. It gets overproduced. People try to fancy it up by adding (gasp) keyboards. And then, they try to make the vocals sound pretty. Pretty has absolutely NOTHING to do with rock and roll. Rock and roll is raw emotion. Rock and roll is the pain of real life laid bare and exposed. John Moreland plays that kind of rock and roll.

Look up “prolific” in the dictionary. There is a good chance John’s picture is there. In the past 12 months, John has released 25 songs. Two full CDs, a two song EP and a 3 song EP. Most artists are lucky to get a decent 10 songs in 12 months. Of course, your first inclination is to think “there has got to be a lot of filler in there.” HA! I dare you to listen to any song on Everything the Hard Way and not think you have just heard the greatest lyric ever written. Its customary on these reviews to pick out a few standout songs and give them an in-depth analysis. This album has 10 songs that deserve that kind of attention. And frankly, to explain them to you before you get to hear them would be a grave disservice to you. It would take away the shock and awe of that first listen. And second listen.

What would happen if you took the UK’s leading contemporary bluesman and put him in the midst of the music community of north Mississippi? That question was posed at a chance meeting between Siegal’s manager and Cody Dickinson, co-founder and producer of the North Mississippi Allstars. The answer is THE SKINNY, a captivating fusion of Siegal’s song craft with influences of the hill country.

The band of musicians backing Siegal was coined The Youngest Sons when it was discovered that each was a youngest son: Garry Burnside (guitar/bass guitar), the youngest son of R L Burnside; Robert Kimbrough (guitar) of Junior Kimbrough; Rodd Bland (drums) of Bobby Blue Bland; and Cody Dickinson (drums/bass/woogie board), the youngest son of producer and pianist, Jim Dickinson. The Dirty Streets is a band from Memphis, TN. Their sound is hard 70,s southern rock. The Dirty Streets formed in 2006, around the core of Toland and bassist Thomas Storz, who had bonded musically while playing together as a local band called Foodstamps.

After struggling for over a year to find a permanent drummer, Storz and Toland finally made the acquaintance of drummer (and, as luck would have it, Storz’s new neighbor) Andrew Denham, thus solidifying the group’s line-up. The newly formed trio forged a unique sound, equally reverent to punk predecessors like the MC5, hard rockers like Led Zeppelin and Grand Funk Railroad, and classic soul/R&B artists like James Brown and Sly & the Family Stone.

After gigging around town for a while, the Dirty Streets began to pick up. …steam in 2009 with the release of the group’s impressive debut full-length album, Portrait of a Man. Later that same year, the band also got tapped to support local roots-punk heroes Lucero on a sizable portion of U.S. tour dates. Almost immediately after finishing Portrait of a Man, the group began working on new material and experimenting even further with musical styles.

Much of the commentary about Darrell Scott’s career has focused on the songs he’s written that have been recorded by famous names and voices – those known in music industry parlance as “artists.” But then there’s the actual word artist, whose definition has nothing to do with radio hits and red carpets. We refer of course to those who create artifacts of aesthetic and intellectual contemplation and wonder, built from experience, skill, reflection and emotional intent. That’s an artist. And that, at the end of the day, is Darrell Scott.

This is made abundantly clear on A Crooked Road, Scott’s sixth solo studio album. Recorded at home and entirely performed by Scott on a variety of instruments, A Crooked Road falls somewhere between a carefully crafted memoir and an arresting breach of privacy. From the deepest containers of memory, it recounts the bruises and blessings of 30 years of love relationships, stirring the heart with its intimacy and with the enthralling warmth and strength of Scott’s rare voice and musicianship.

It is certainly the most introspective and intense project of Scott’s career, spilling over from one CD onto a second, and arranged as a journey with instrumental interludes and a sense of purpose that invites the listener to follow Scott along the crooked road of life, from romantic young man to drama king to lone poet.

A peace Ebony himself and his band clearly not grants. Slum Dreams Bering end of 2010 received much praise. Comparisons with John Mellencamp, Ryan Adams, Nick Drake and others singing songs written and demigods were reviewed.

A fine blend of folk, blues and country, although many references calls, but enough Ebony own show.And that is the successor to A Whisper To Arms case. Although an album with more on the accelerator pedal is stepped, but the links to Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and Drive-By Truckers are quickly made.

SRV revisited ?

If ever there were a blues/rock artist for the world, it is Canadian born and California based guitarist Wolf Mail. Mail, who began his world tour in his teens with Ted Nugent, continues today as he travels throughout North America, Europe, and currently Australia in support of his debut solo release "Solid Ground". This is a very well named CD, as Mail's work is indeed consistently solid from start to finish in every category. His vocals also unique sounding, and the sum product of all of this is a sound that is both somewhat familiar and yet very much original.

Mail, like the excellent Australian guitarist Mal Eastick, is a very polished player, and his work tends to demonstrate more of the "beauty" side of blues/rock guitar, as opposed the "beast" so prominent in more aggressive styles. Mail's guitar work bears the unmistakable marks of the normal SRV/Hendrix/Clapton influences. However, I pay him the ultimate compliment by saying that, though he has obviously been influenced by the normal guitar gods, he bears a striking resemblance to none of them, as his sound is strictly Wolf Mail.

James Milton Campbell, Jr. better known as Little Milton, was an American electric blues, rhythm and blues, and soul singer and guitarist, best known for his hit records "Grits Ain't Groceries" and "We're Gonna Make It." For his 2005 Telarc label debut, the 71-year-old uitarist / singer / songwriter found a kindred spirit in producer/guitarist Jon Tiven. Together, they composed all the songs for a remarkably consistent comeback.

Discarding the strings, horns, and lavish production that blues purists often felt drowned Milton's substantial talents, Tiven keeps the sound lean and tough. Milton responds with his toughest performance in years, wading in the Southern swamps for "Next to You," pleading with that patented aged-whiskey voice on the sumptuous "Reconsider Me," and tearing into the superb soul-blues style he's best known for on the crackling mid-tempo opener "Gonna Find Me Somebody to Love."

Those new to Little Milton's legendary talents--and even older fans who might have lost track throughout the years--will find the icon in splendid form on this magnificent release. In 1988, Little Milton was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and won a W.C. Handy Award. His most final album, Think of Me, was released in May 2005 on the Telarc imprint, and included writing and guitar on three songs by Peter Shoulder of the UK-based blues-rock trio Winterville.

Milton died on August 4, 2005 from complications following a stroke.

The problem with old rockers — Rolling Stones and some Neil Young excepted — is that they don’t rock enough. Maybe it’s the passage of time, the slowing of the internal clock, or just some strange need to become Bob Dylan at his slowest. Nils Lofgren’s Old School has its moments but it isn’t really old school. When you have Paul Rodgers (“Bad Company”, “Feel Like Making Love”) and Lou Gramm (“Midnight Blue,” “Urgent” and my personal favorite, “Dirty White Boy”) and Sam Moore of the immortal Sam and Dave all singing along, you ought to be able to crank out some hot rock. Instead, we mostly get some slow paced, lost love, oh what a dreary world it is, songs that make me think the anti-depressants aren’t working very well.

Nils has his own gold standard rock bona fides from a quarter century with Springsteen’s reconstituted E-Street Band and earlier stints with Neil Young and Crazy Horse. Still, there’s some interesting stuff. “60 Is The New 18″ is a lively little rocker about the discovery that at 60 you might be a little uncomfortable playing rock ‘n roll. Then stop and please spare us the angst. There’s a lovely Bruce McCabe written lament, “Irish Angel,” that has the melodic structure of an Irish ballad with, of course, sad lyrics. It’s Irish after all. “All their wars were happy and all their songs were sad,” someone once wrote. It fittingly ends with a raised glass. And then another. Also Irish. “Amy Jones Blues” lives up to the title for the most part. Nice blues feel but somehow the “bum knees” of aging don’t really strike me as poignant or down and out. And there are a couple of Springsteen/E Street-like songs “Love Stumbles On,” which I suspect Bruce will sing in concert at some point, and “Just Because.” “Love Stumbles On” has a love against the darkness modest quality. Love only “stumbles on” but it does endure.

Good enough. “Just Because” starts the tailing off into total tunes of regret and way too downer love (mostly lost) that dominates this album. Perhaps I am missing a sensitivity gene, but it all seems just too woebegone and maudlin. It’s only rock ‘n roll, Nils, we could use a lighter touch. I remember feeling much the same way about Robbie Robertson’s How to be Clairvoyant earlier this year. Does it really suck that much to be you? In the lyrics of “Ain’t Too Many Of Us Left,” “wild old Neil” calls to utter the title phrase to a surgery-recovering Lofgren. It would help if a little of the “wild” came through more, especially if there ain’t too many of us left.

The band truly broke through during 2010 with ever-growing audiences who couldn’t get enough of what they had to offer. Carpenter grew up playing the guitar and between college years at Brown University she would play local bars and clubs in the Washington, DC area. After graduating from Brown in 1981, Carpenter continued playing and being a part of Washington’s music scene, where she met guitarist John Jennings, who would become her co- producer and long-time collaborator. Within a few years, she recorded a demo tape that led to a deal with Columbia Records where she spent nearly 20 years and sold over 13 million albums.

SuperHeavy is the collaborative efforts of 5 outstanding superstars, Mick Jagger, Dave Stewart, Joss Stone, AR Rahman and Damian "Jr Gong" Marley. Mick Jagger has teamed up with Eurythmics founder Dave Stewart, soul singer Joss Stone, Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack composer A.R. Rahman and reggae star Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley to form a band cooperative project called SuperHeavy.

Deze mannen deden 44 dagen over hun reis en bezochten in die tijd 11 landen. Daarvoor moesten ze 18 keer het vliegtuig pakken en legden ze 61.155 kilometer af. Normaal gesproken zou een collega die zo'n reis achter de rug heeft u lastig vallen met duizenden vakantiekiekjes, maar deze mannen zijn iets creatiever en wisten hun indrukwekkende reis in drie video's van slechts één minuut te proppen.

Heart had a pair of greatest-hits collections to their credit by 1997, but both did not contain all the renowned studio versions of their classic hits from the '70s (both 1980's Heart Greatest Hits: Live on Epic and 1997's Greatest Hits on Capitol contained half studio and half live material).

1998's Greatest Hits on Epic/Legacy finally corrected this once and for all -- collecting all of Heart's '70s studio hits on a single disc. Nearly all of the songs have become classic rock staples, the best-known being the Zep-esque rockers "Crazy on You," "Barracuda," and "Magic Man," while the more subdued acoustic material ("Dreamboat Annie," "Love Alive," "Dog & Butterfly") showcases the immense talents of vocalist Ann Wilson. THE GREENCARDS. From the first notes struck together in 2003 through tours with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson and up to and beyond their fourth studio album in 2009, The Greencards have won steadily escalating acclaim for their multi-dimensional Americana vision.

Each step they've taken has widened their appeal. Their releases have topped the Billboard Bluegrass charts. Two singles have garnered Grammy nominations. They've earned ovations from "newgrass" music devotees at MerleFest and rock loyalists at Lollapalooza.

But this four piece band, spearheaded by Australians Carol Young and Kym Warner, is interested less in past accomplishments than in looking ahead for new goals to achieve. That's why their latest release is also in many ways their most significant and impressive to date.

That immediacy was heightened by the addition of two new members of the group. Tyler Andal, a young fiddle whiz from Tennessee, reinforces both The Greencards' grounding in roots music and eagerness to let in the fresh air of newgrass, rock, folk elements, Latin America and much more. "He thinks outside the box," Warner explains. "We’ve always had a strong rhythmic aspect to our music, and Tyler definitely brings that."

With The Brick Album, though, the world becomes more than ever their stage. Their sound defies category, balancing taste and technique, engaging lyrics and melodies and wildly creative arrangements. There may be a wall on its cover, but the future suggested on these tracks knows no barrier.

Born in Belfast, Van Morrison's father was an avid collector of American blues and jazz records. Morrison grew up listening to AMERICAN music like Leadbelly, Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson, Muddy Waters, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee, John Lee Hooker, Mahalia Jackson, and Lightnin' Hopkins. He grew up surrounded by every kind of American musical influence. From the age of 13, he was adept at playing guitar, sax and harmonica and played with a series of local showbands along with Skiffle and Rock 'n' Roll groups, and Brian Rossi at the Plaza Ballroom.

His early love of music, for the music, has certainly paid off. Morrison's music continues to have that authentic American Blues, Jazz and melodic Folk sound that he loved and listened to in his childhood, long before those early showbands and well before his initial 1964/5 hit records with his band called THEM.

There is a definite theme that recurs throughout the album, especially in the title track. This record does not boast the big horns of some of Morrison's previous work. But, don't let the title fool you. Keep it SIMPLE is EVERYTHING but SIMPLE - it is a Multi-faceted record filled with mystical layers of sound -start to finish -with Songs from the Soul and gorgeous melodies, rich with emotion, depth and beauty. -truly a record that has something for everyone.

Released in 1978, "Wavelength," though not amoung Van Morrison's all time best, is still one of his more engaging albums. It takes the basic formula of his classic "Moondance" and updates it with longer songs (though admittedly they are one the whole not as strong as "Moondance"). The album kicks off with the spirited "Kingdom Hall" and then moves on to such other excellent tracks as "Sante Fe/Beautiful Obsession," "Hungry for Your Love," "Venice U.S.A." and the wonderfully perky title track. Morrison has never sounded better as a vocalist and in retrospect he was just warming up for his late 70s masterpiece "Into the Music" that would follow a year later.

ALYSON AVENUE was formed in 1989 by a couple of friends who intended to play melodic rock in the way TREAT and EUROPE amongst others did. At that time ALYSON AVENUE had a male vocalist. Anette was taken in to the band as a Back up singer but did a great job on a demo recording and then became a permanent member of the band soon after the band was founded.

With a female vocalist the similarities of the band’s sound used to be compared with HEART & ROBIN BECK. The music drifted towards a much more “poppier” sound for a while but at the rehearsals you could hear the band playing everything from Hard Rock to even Soul. When playing live ALYSON AVENUE always had concentrated to perform AOR & Hard Rock only though.

After Anettes departure to NIGHTWISH the rest of the Band toyed with the idea of starting a new Male Fronted AOR-Band but those ideas where eventually scrapped and the search of a new Female Vocalist started. In 2009 Arabella Vitanc joined the band on Lead Vocals giving the band new energy to start the work on the 3:rd Alyson Avenue record.

Na het debuutalbum ‘Rise’ uit 2006 en de opvolger ‘Everyday Demons’ uit 2009 is er dan nu een dvd verschenen van The Answer met een zeventig minuten durende documentaire, diverse live-opnamen en negen promotieclips. Wie de laatste optredens van AC/DC in Nederland heeft bijgewoond werd al vroeg op de avond wakker geschud door vier jonge Noord-Ieren met een enorme hoeveelheid enthousiasme, energie, inzet maar bovenal met een grote dosis ‘rock in hun donder’. Het is snel gegaan met de vier jongens uit Belfast die vijf jaar geleden nog een korte Nederlandse tour deden in zaaltjes met gemiddeld vijftig betalende bezoekers.

De band mocht openen voor grote namen als The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Whitesnake en The Who maar “Het beste live-optreden ooit wordt zonder twijfel gespeeld door AC/DC”, aldus Micky Waters, de bassist die namens het viertal spreekt. De band wordt 412 dagen gevolgd tijdens de Black Ice-tour van hun grote helden waar het als support-act mag optreden. “We waren bezig met het opnemen van enkele b-kanten voor ‘Demon Eyes’ in Brixton” toen onze manager iedereen bij elkaar riep voor een korte vergadering. Op het moment dat hij zijn map op tafel legde zag ik tussen die papieren het logo van de band met diverse plaatsnamen er achter vermeld staan. Toen wist ik het zeker”. Het blijkt de tourkalender te zijn van 42 optredens in Amerika waar wordt opgetreden in zalen en stadions met een minimale capaciteit van 20.000 toeschouwers.

Matt Nathanson is geboren in Boston op 28 maart 1973. Hij speelt al vanaf zijn 6de jaar gitaar en het was toen al zijn droom muzikant te worden. Hij groeide op in Lexington. Op de middelbare school speelde hij in de schoolband.

Op 19 jarige leeftijd maakte hij zijn eerste cd: Please. Matt studeerde toen nog. Zijn muziek heeft een unieke sound. Het is een combinatie van Folk music en rock. Zijn teksten zijn sterk. De shows die hij geeft zijn vaak humoristisch.

Meestal bespeelt Matt de 12-snarige gitaar. In juni 2011 komt zijn nieuwe cd Modern Love uit. De song Faster komt van deze cd en is sinds maart 2011 als single verkrijgbaar. Matt is getrouwd met Bridget en woont in San Francisco.

gooit met Strange Ang3ls zijn allereerste solo project voor de hongerige leeuwen. De veel gevraagde gitarist, songwriter, engineer en producer neemt pas op vijftienjarige leeftijd voor het eerst een gitaar vast, nadat hij had leren drummen. Usually these aren’t written by the artist, at least at this level- but as I was trying to decide who could tell my story the best, I felt like that person was me. So, I’d like to be the one to tell you where I come from, why I write music, what I’ve seen happen along the way, and where I see things going according to my finite vision.

I’m from Liberty, Missouri, but have called Nashville, Tennessee, home for the last seven years. It seems fitting that I would be writing my own biography on the cusp of my first major label release, just as I did eight years ago before releasing my first independent album. This time, though, I’m not trying to play it off like I didn’t write it.

I grew up in a home where I was encouraged to explore and dive into whatever grabbed my attention. Sports? Sure. Art? You bet. Girls? Yep. Music? Obviously. There was no expectation other than to do my best “and let God do the rest,” as my Mom always says. With that kind of freedom end encouragement, I did just that—I played sports for the fun of them, made art because I loved to create, and eventually, I wrote and performed music… because I had to.

How do I know? Because these songs emanate from the pages of my life, and I’ve seen first-hand the way that people have connected with them from their own experiences. In eight years of touring through hundreds of venues, playing three albums’ worth of songs for thousands of listeners, that connection is what fuels my passion. Ultimately, the thing that you and I have here—between the words and the chords and the lights and the beats—that is the thing that encourages me to keep singing.

Everyone misses the point about REO Speedwagon: the critics who call their music corporate and faceless, even fans looking for a 70s-80s nostalgia trip every summer with Frampton Comes Alive XXIII. Unlike studio-born contemporaries such as Toto and Journey, REO came from the midwest and built its reputation on non-stop touring.

Even amidst changes in personnel and musical tastes, their music, reflected in their best and most popular songs contained here, reflect persistence and perserverence. Look down the titles: "ROLL with the Changes," "KEEP on Loving You," "KEEP Pushing," "Don't Let Him Go," "Ridin' The Storm Out." (Not to mention "Keep The Fire Burnin'" a great 1982 hit which didn't make it here.)

These songs are about staying in the game (whether the game is love or career) when many feel it's no longer necessary. It's no accident that their breakthrough 1977 live album was called, "You Get What You Play For"; REO's success was belated but earned. This is more than a best-of CD. Even with the hit ballads it's a mission statement that rocks.

Tjsa, wat kunnen we nog zeggen over Saxon? De band heeft in de afgelopen 32 jaar bijna klassieker na klassieker afgeleverd en hoewel ze ook mindere albums hebben gemaakt, heeft men sinds ‘Dogs Of War’(1995) en vooral het fantastische ‘Unleash The Beast’ (1997) alleen maar kwalitatief hoogwaardige albums afgeleverd. Al vanaf ‘Lionheart’ (2004) laat Saxon met elk album een mix van hun onvervalste snelle heavy metal kant en de ander de meer ouderwetse rockachtige horen.

De band’s negentiende studioalbum, ‘Call To Arms’, is dan ook precies hetgeen geworden wat je had kunnen en mogen verwachten van de Britse legende en de band slaat de spijker weer op de kop.

De productie heeft dit keer niet in handen van Charlie Bauerfeind gelegen (die sinds ‘Lionheart’ elk album produceerde en eerder ook verantwoordelijk was voor ‘Metal Head’), maar het album is opgenomen in Engeland onder leiding van Toby Jepson (Little Angels) en uiteraard Biff. Dat is het album en de band alleen maar ten goede gekomen, want het album heeft hierdoor een meer nuchtere en rockerige karakter gekregen. Alles bij elkaar is ‘Call To Arms’ een typische en wederom kwalitatief hoogwaardig album geworden. En als een band op leeftijd (laten we eerlijk zijn) na al die jaren nog altijd zo energiek, enthousiast, vertrouwd en tegelijkertijd verfrissend voor de dag kan komen, verdient dat alleen maar respect.

Andrew Gold, the singer-songwriter best known for 1977's "Lonely Boy" single, died Friday in his sleep from a heart attack. He was 59. That song was heard in films such as Boogie Nights and Water Boy. Another song, "Thank You for Being a Friend," was heard on TV each week for almost a decade as the theme song for The Golden Girls. Gold was also known for his late '70s tune, "Do Wah Diddy."

The L.A. native began writing songs at age 13. By the early 1970s, he was working as a musician, songwriter and record producer. He was a member of the Los Angeles band Bryndle. In 1975, Gold set out on a solo career and released four albums during that decade.

The year 1975 also marked Gold's successful collaboration with Art Garfunkel. He played all the instruments on Garfunkel's No. 1 UK hit, "I Only Have Eyes For You." Aside from Garfunkel, Gold also worked with or produced music for artists including Cher, Brian Wilson, Don Henley, Celine Dion and members of the Beatles. Drastic Fantastic is the second studio album by Scottish Singer-songwriter KT Tunstall. It was released by Relentless Records on 10 September 2007 in the United Kingdom and 18 September 2007 in the United States and Canada.

The album received warm, though conservative, praise by most critics. Music critics from The Observer gave Drastic Fantastic five stars, stating the album was "bursting with so many hits that Tunstall's comic-book life is about to go stratospheric". Rob Sheffield of Rolling Stone gave the album three-and-a-half stars out of five, and said that the album's sound was a "flashback" to 1997 by noting similarities between the songs on Drastic Fantastic and songs written 10 years earlier.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic gave the album four out of five, calling Drastic Fantastic "a rare beast: a pop album with a songwriter's heart".
